Financial & Legal Resources

Alamo Area Council of Governments - offers home-delivered meals, transportation services, legal aid & caregiver support (https://aacog.com/aging-services). Social Security offers assistance with retirement, disability benefits and supplemental income programs (www.ssa.gov) and don't forget AARP Foundation (www.aarp.org).

Healthcare & Wellness

Medicare & Medicaid have resources for understanding coverage, enrollment & benefits (www.medicare.gov); the WellMed Foundation provides health & wellness for seniors in Texas (https://www.wellmedcharitablefoundation.org/); the City of San Antonio has a Metropolitan Health District (https://www.sa.gov/Directory/Departments/SAMHD) that offers health screenings, vaccinations and wellness programs.

Transportation

If you are unable to drive, VIA Metropolitan Transit https://www.viainfo.net) provides discounted fares and paratransit services for seniors; there are also Senior Ride Programs like SilverRide (https://silverride.com/schedule-ride/ ) or local churches that often offer free or low cost ride options.

Community & Social Support

Safety & Emergency Services

The San Antonio Fire Department offers free smoke alarm installations & fire safety checks for seniors; there is also an Elder Abuse Hotline to report suspected elder abuse or neglect at 1.800.252.5400 (Texas Department of Family and Protective Services).
